Weaving I

Weaving I is a fun class for beginners who require lots of patience. Create a simple table runner of plain weave and twills. Make a warp, dress the loom, read a draft, calculate yarns, and weave your own table runner. Loom rental is included.

Weaving II for beginners - Hand-Manipulated Open Weaves

Jute or linen lacy weaves are open and airy, suitable for delicate curtains and wall hangings. Revisit warping, beaming, and threading a loom before learning to create hand-manipulated laces. A shot does not go from edge to edge, but you will use butterfly bundles. Each student creates an open-weave bag or table mat, and learns several hand-manipulated techniques. Loom rental is included. Prerequisite: Fund of Weaving I or approval of instructor. Age 16+

Weaving Towels - Intermediate

Weave on a floor loom in "round robin" fashion, a fast way to experience several different weave structures at the same time. Gain experience with selvedges and weaving rhythm to make a set of towels you can take home. Minimum 4 students.

Color & Structure

Everyone loves the rainbow results of the samplers made in this class, techniques to be used for a lifetime. Study color theory as it pertains to weaving - the interaction of colors and neutrals within a variety of weave structures. Make a color journal and reference samples so that choosing colors is no longer trial and error. This class is highly recommended for the serious weaver. Plan extra hours to weave if you fall behind. Prerequisite: Knowledge in dressing floor looms. Minimum 4 students.

Rag Rugs and Plastic Totes

You've been inspired by the Craft House exhibit "Recession Rags: A Magic Carpet Ride." Now you can repurpose old cloth, sheets, rags, and plastic bags to weave a new rug or tote. Dress a floor loom, then construct a small rug or a tote bag from recycled plastic materials. Learn different styles, structures and finishing techniques. Class may require time weaving outside of normal class hours. 6-week course

Tapestry

Tapestry is a simple form of weaving, with many loom variations the world over. Learn at least 10 basic tapestry and rug weaving structures. For portability and ease, we'll use table looms rather than a traditional vertical loom. If you want to learn tapestry rather than textiles, this is the class for you! Age 16+ No prerequisite. Minimum 3 students

Pick It Up and Set it Down - Miniature Tapestry

Get your start in class, then go on vacation and come back and start again. Make a portable loom on which to apply basic tapestry techniques. During the summer, drop by PCH on any Monday Night Drop-In to work and get tutoring. Finish a mounted wall piece to take home by September 10th. Emphasis on creative expression and using left over yarns, trims, and notions to add eye appeal and texture. Age 16+

Card or Tablet Weaving I

Card or tablet weaving

Weave with simple tablets or cards to make intricate bands, straps, belts for guitar straps, hat bands, or bags (see examples in the weaving room and The Gift Gallery). Requires very simple tools but can be stimulating in its diversity. This weaving technique is ancient, going back to Egypt, Tibet, Scandinavia, Turkey and other cultures worldwide. GREAT FOR CAMPING AND SUMMER PROJECTS. Minimum 3 students. Age 16+

Card or Tablet Weaving II

Card weaving can look very complex yet is simple and fast to weave. Card Weaving 2 continues the different warping methods, structures, letters, and card manipulations learned in Card Weaving 1. Age 16+

Weavers Drop-In

weavers group

Mondays from 5:00 to 8:00 pm excluding holidays. This is an evening set aside for fiber artists to show-n-tell, socialize, weave, and work together. No formal instruction, just slide shows of fiber art. A small donation to offset rent and utilities is appreciated.

Individual Projects

SPECIAL FOR SUMMER. Experienced students who want to study specific textile structures such as loom-controlled lace weaves, Summer & Winter, Overshot, Crackle, etc. or weave a special project. Develop your own studies in a supportive environment with other weavers. One or more persons can study a subject as looms become available on a month-to-month basis. Three people can weave a variation and learn from classmates. Loom rental is included. Prerequisite - previous weaving experience and teacher approval. This is not a class and does not include specific instructions.

Table Loom Rentals

The Craft House has a few available table looms at a reasonable fee, including small looms for classroom or youth groups, plus warping boards and raddles to take home.
