What is Cyber Terrorism?
Cyber terrorism can be defined as disruptive attacks or threats against our computers and networks, with the intention of causing intimidation and harm to operations, infrastructure and privacy.

Who's at Risk?
As business, government and society become increasingly dependent upon the Internet, they also increase their exposure and therefore risk of disruption from cyber attacks.

Once your computer is connected to a network, its resources are often available to all the other computers on the network. The problem comes when your network is The Internet because your computer is offering its resources to the rest of the world.

Individuals and organized groups can use Cyberspace to threaten security or infrastructure from around the corner and from the other side of the world. Potential targets are not just individual computers and personal information, but also entire networks like military installations, banks and power and water facilities are at risk.

Were recent power outages caused by cyber terrorism?

Affects on society and commerce:
The affects of cyber terrorism on society and business include direct costs related to the loss of productivity, disruptions in time, network delays and property theft. Many times these cyber attacks involve indirect costs like the loss of personal privacy and the loss of confidence in our systems.

Information security and privacy has become a huge problem due to the vulnerabilities in our systems. With the recent surge of cyber terrorism, it has become clear that we need to focus on strategies for combating these attacks and for safeguarding information and infrastructures.
