We awoke, stinkier than ever. We did our wash and looked around town for a shower. The pool would have showers, but it opened too late for us. So we continued onward before noon.

Our amazing weather continued to hold today. We had had nothing but sun and kind winds since Illinois. We sped off on good roads with little traffic.

Crossing rivers on a bicycle is not nearly as easy as it is in a car. Our friends from the C&O had offered to have family cart us over the Susquehanna in Havre de Grace. We opted for the Conowingo dam. The dam was not much fun. The road was narrow, without shoulders and with fast traffic. Conditions were not amenable to picture taking on the dam. Crossing this river put us east of both of our parents. Patti grew up in Binghamton, New York, a few hundred miles upstream. The river here is much more impressive. A few miles south it fills the Chesapeake Bay.

We arrived in Rising Sun, and were directed to North East for a hotel. We found coupons and made reservatios. The thirty minute downhill trip before dusk was a breeze.

The hotel turned out to be pretty upscale. The receptionist brushed aside our coupons, based on the fact that we had reservations. I was pissed. Still, at this point I would have paid anything for a shower. So we paid our overpriced fee and took long hot showers.

We ate at the Flying J truckstop across the road. At least I ate. We got there with ten minutes left of the all you can eat buffet. We filled our table with plates. I ate my half of the table easily, and helped Patti eat hers.
