We planned to head due east today. We stumbled across the Rock Island Rail Trail in Toulon. That changed our plans. Although it was late already we made reservations at a Marriot in Peoria. We booked down the trail. It was such a relief to get away from the cars. We had to stop to fix a spoke and a flat tire. While we stopped we talked to a local farmer out on the trail for a ride. He said that when the trail was proposed he hated it. Now that it's in he uses it alot for recreation. Really nice guy.
We pedalled on into dark. At the very end of the trail I proclaimed, "Well, it's been a good trail." At that instant I ran over a big pit in the trail. It was alot more funny than damaging. The trail alowed us to ride later than we would normally dare. Now it was dark and we had a couple of miles to go to the hotel. The traffic was pretty heavy. We got into our hotel late. After stuffing ourselved with Pizza Hut.
