The weather was getting better. The clouds had gone, but the slight headwinds would stay with us until Maryland. Route 20 continued to favor us with low traffic and wide shoulders. Our only complaint, the gaps between pavement blocks.
Most of the towns here advertise free camping in the city park. We planned on tenting in Inman. Our newest "Grandma", Gradma Rose, one of the very nice people we met in town, let us stay in her house. So good to be inside, out of reach of the mosquitos.
How did we keep on meeting all these great people? By now we had it down to a science. We'ld roll into town, and head immediately for the bar. Every town in America has at least one building, and it's usually a bar. We'ld look as tired, hungry, interesting, cute, and friendly as we could manage. The patrons would usually strike up a conversation. After a few rounds, voila, invitation to stay inside for the night. In Inman it went like this. We sat down, said hello and explained what we were doing. Everyone was intrigued, but wary. After a beer we started to head for the park. Before leaving we decided to buy two "Inman Pioneer Days" cookbooks. (I'ld highly recommend it. It's got everyone in town's best recipees, along with pictures and the history of the town.) As soon as we did that, we were surrounded by the women of the town. Saying hello, signing our cookbooks, sharing stories with us, taking pictures, buying us beers. It was great. A few rounds later we stumbled to bed.
Thanks!
