We got up early, eager to get on the road with a big tail wind. Riding about a mile I noticed the huge bug wiggling inside my new cycling gloves. A repulsive feeling if ever there was one. I took of the glove and let whatever it was go.
With a downhill and tailwind, we had no trouble making the fourty nine miles to Harlowtown in three hours. Just in time for lunch. We ate our subs with gusto. Partly to let our food digest we next checked out the Musselshell River Museum. It's one of the best museums I've seen. It had old maps of the country, with city populations, from the time when most states were territories, local dinosaur bones, a wolfskin coat, a two headed calf, old buggies, and dolls. It was very interesting.
By the time we got on the road, we could see the reason for the wind storm. Big thunderclouds were chasing us. We surfed the storm, absolutely racing the winds. As the clouds got ever closer we could see the big scary lightning get closer and closer. When it seemed our death was imminent we reached the outskirts of Shawmut. We tried to ask at a farmhouse for shelter. But the big dog was more freightening than the lightning. We tried the next, and were overjoyed to be invited in for a game of Kinasta. One moment we were racing the lightning, hearts pounding, fearing death, and the next moment, I was considering what could go on top of a red five. The storm passed quickly and we said thanks and headed out again.
The road was still good so we determined to try to finish the century. Pushing really hard until nightfal we got to Lavina. We rode up and down Main Street Lavina until my odometer said 100 miles. After that we headed to the bar, the only place open that we could get food at (and beer). We were fortunate to make friends there with a man who let us stay in an apartment he owned. It wasn't finished but it was dry and good enough for us. Much better than the town park.
