Today we got out and headed towards Deep Creek Pass. It is great to watch the open fields of the lowlands give way to the mountain pines. We labored up the hill and over. Looking back we could still see snow on top of the mountain, even though it was mid July! The downhill was extreem. Our RV love hate relationship continued. On the downhill, an RV'r insisted on honking at us madly, for slowing him down. It took him no longer than thirty seconds to get around us. Behind him were eight cars he had been blocking for the past half hour. We certainly would prefer not to share the roads with RV'rs like that one.
At the bottom of the hill Patti was wiped out, exhausted from the hard work yesterday and the climb today. We staggered into White Sulphur Springs and settled down for while. We had a delicious dinner of broasted jo jos and cokes. Jo Jo's are a Montana delicacy of pressure cooked, deep fat fried potatoes. They woke Patti right up. Then we went to the hotel with the fabled springs, supposedly of the exact same chemical composition of some of Europes most famous spa's. I guess that means the Europian spas smell like rotten eggs too. The hot hot water, saturated with Sulphur was exactly what our aching muscles needed. The time spent also let the heat of the day subside.
Refreshed we continued on to Lake Sutherlin. This little lake, high up in the hills was pretty. The lakeshore dotted with RV's campers and tents. The wind at night made for a disconcerting sleep. A wild wind storm whipped up. I got up to fully stake down the tent and place rocks over the stakes. It was harrowing being inside the tent with that much wind.
